Summary

Congress mandated the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), replacing the UAP Task Force as a permanent body spanning air, sea, and space. NASA simultaneously commissioned a 16-member independent team to study unclassified UAP data.

Detail

In 2022, the U.S. Congress, through the National Defense Authorization Act, mandated the creation of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) under the DoD, replacing the more limited UAP Task Force with a stronger permanent body spanning the air, sea, and space domains. Simultaneously, NASA commissioned a 16-member independent study team to examine unclassified UAP data — the first time the space agency formally engaged the subject. Both moves marked the institutionalization of the U.S. government's handling of UAP.
